Prosecutors denied chance to appeal Oscar Pistorius’s six year sentence

It is being reported on August 26, 2016 that a judge has rejected prosecutors request to appeal the six-year-sentence for murder given paralympian Oscar Pistorius earlier this year.

Many felt that the sentence Pistorius received for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013, was not punishment enough.  Many trial watchers expected the double amputee ex-Olympic runner to receive at least ten years for the murder.

Oscar Pistorius gets six years for murdering Reeva Steenkamp

In a shocking end to a three-year legal battle, it is being reported on July 6, 2016 that Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to six years in prison for murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.  He will be eligible for house arrest by 2019.   Reeva Steenkamp’s parents left the courtroom without comment.

Oscar Pistorius to return to prison

It is being reported on March 3, 2016 that the Constitutional Court in South Africa has rejected Oscar Pistorius’s appeal against his murder conviction. “”We can confirm that Oscar Pistorius’ leave to appeal has been denied,” National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Luvuyo Mfaku told Reuters.”  The double-amputee Olympian now faces at least 15 years in jail — a new sentence will be handed down on April 18, 2016.

Oscar Pistorius found guilty of murder

South Africa’s top appeals court has upgraded Oscar Pistorius’s conviction from ‘culpable homicide’ or manslaughter to murder today for the death of Reeva Steenkamp.  Pistorius shot and killed Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013.  In October 2014 Pistorius was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to five years.

It is being reported on November 3, 2015 that the Oscar Pistorius appeals trial began in Bloemfontein, South Africa.  Pistorius was found guilty of manslaughter or culpable homicide in October 2014.  He was sentenced to five years and released into house arrest last month after 12 months in prison.

Oscar Pistorius gets surprise release into house arrest

It is being reported on October 20, 2015 that Oscar Pistorius is scheduled to be released from prison next Tuesday. He will begin house arrest on October 20, 2015. A South African parole board decided to release Pistorius one year into his five year sentence for murdering Reeva Steenkamp.
