Amanda Knox, Murder of Meredith Kercher

Amanda Knox faces more prison time

Amanda Knox was acquitted of murder back in March due to insufficient evidence  but her conviction of calunnia or criminal slander was upheld.  Knox falsely accused her former boss Patrick Lumumba for the murder of Meredith Kercher and as a result she was sentenced to four years which was time served in Capanne Prison.

Now Knox faces additional slander charges for her accusations against the Perugian police and an interpreter.  Knox testified in court regarding the circumstances of her questioning at the police station and she claimed that the police were abusive.  She also alleges that it was because of this abuse and coercion by police and interpreter that culminated in her pointing the finger at her former employer.

If Knox is found guilty again of slander, she could be sentenced to more prison time.  Since this would be a second offense, her sentencing would be more severe than the first time.   Italian based journalist Andrea Vogt recently tweeted:

Amanda Knox’s next trial is set to begin on September 3, 2015 in Florence, Italy.  Knox’s next trial begins much sooner than her former beau, Raffaele Sollecito. Sollecito is due back in court on May 13, 2016 regarding defamatory statements made in his book, Honor Bound.
