The 44-year-old former star of Beverly Hills 90210 has recently been diagnosed with “invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node.”
A lawsuit filed by Doherty states that her accounting firm, Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson, failed to pay her SAG health insurance bill in 2014 which resulted in her coverage being canceled. She could not renew her health insurance plan until 2015.
Soon after getting her insurance reinstated, in March 2015, a check-up with the doctor revealed an advanced stage of breast cancer. Doctors believe the cancer spread in 2014 when she was not covered. Had the cancer been detected in 2014 it would have been much easier to treat.
Doherty will be undergoing chemotherapy and a mastectomy which she claims could have been avoided if the cancer had been detected earlier.
