Police have released a video of the man who scratched thirty cars on the same street in NY Wednesday morning. The suspect was captured on video by a security camera on one of the homes on Cameo Drive in Massapequa, NY.

The footage shows a lone, possibly middle-aged man casually walking up to a white car parked in the resident’s driveway. He looks into the driver’s side window then proceeds to leave a single long scratch along the hood of the car. He then turns around and walks back in the direction he came from while holding out his right arm to scrape the entire right side of another car parked next to the first one.

The perpetrator is described as being white, heavy-set, wearing tan shorts, dark colored shirt and a light-colored baseball cap. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 29 between 2:45-3:00 a.m. Seventeen home owners on the street have filed police reports. “’Any car that was on the street, any car that was in the driveway got damaged,’ said Dawn DeNicola, whose four cars are among the 31 that were damaged.”

According to authorities the vehicles had scratches on the doors and hoods. “Police say all the cars were keyed along their sides and some had x’s scratched onto their hoods.” Residents feel violated and confused by the unprovoked attack on their cars. “’It makes no sense at all,’ said DeNicola, who believes the suspect used a boxcutter. ‘If there was a disgruntled person who was mad at someone do their house, why do an entire block?’”

Detectives request that anyone with information regarding this crime to contact the Nassau County Cime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
