It is being reported on August 2, 2016 that  Rudy Guede, Amanda Knox’s co-accused in the murder of Meredith Kercher, has filed a petition for a retrial.  Guede’s defense team argues that his sentence is incompatible with the acquittals that Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito received for the same crime.  They want to overturn his conviction.

“The petition was filed this morning at the Court of appeal of Florence by his defenders, lawyers Pietrocarlo Thomas and Monica Grossi.”

Rudy has served eight years of his 16-year-sentence for being a part of the group sexual assault and stabbing death of Meredith Kercher.  Guede claims to be innocent.

The question is: how is it possible that Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were acquitted in one ruling, while Rudy Guede was convicted in another ruling for murder along with the others.”

The Court of Appeal in Florence will now consider whether or not to grant Guede another trial.  A decision is expected no earlier than September 2016.
