It is being reported in Italian news that two men stood in court for breaking into the cottage that Erasmus scholar Meredith Kercher was murdered in.  An unidentified Italian native and a foreigner, two males, burglarized the cottage on Via della Pergola, two times, once in February 2009 and again in March 2009.

The two men walked through the home using candles to light their way while stealing certain objects.  It is unknown what they were looking for or why they chose to break the police seal to unlawfully enter the residence.  Their trespassing did not alter the evidence in the murder trial of suspects Amanda Knox, Raffaele Sollecito and Rudy Guede, as the police had already finished gathering evidence months earlier.

Both men are said to be known to authorities.  An investigation showed that the two intruders spilt wax all over as they searched through the rooms.  For some reason the only items they took were Meredith Kercher’s mattress, some blankets, and Amanda Knox’s knives which were in a suitcase under her bed.

The two male criminals would steal from the house of the crime, Meredith’s mattress, blankets located in the room Laura Mezzetti and blankets belonging to Amanda Knox. Also stolen was a suitcase belonging to the Seattle student, which contained cutlery, including new knives. Inside the case there was also some pasta, however, it was left behind.“  Also left behind was an empty coke can, a cigarette and some duct tape.

This latest arrest has given rise to more questions surrounding this murder mystery.  Why would these two men break into the cottage in two different months to steal Meredith’s mattress and Amanda’s knives?
