Boston marathon murderer demands new trial

bostonbomber

Lawyers for Boston Bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, said in court on Monday, August 17, 2015 that “he deserves a new trial in a different location where jurors will be impartial.”  The bomber’s defense claims that there was so much support for the victims of the Boston marathon bombing that, in the defense’s opinion, it denied him a fair trial.

The outrage of people in the Boston area when Dzhokhar and his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev detonated two bombs at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013 was understandable.  The explosions killed three people and wounded 264 others, many losing limbs.

Dzhokhar calmly returned to school immediately after the attack.  His friends at school had no idea that he had been a part of the explosions and stated that he acted normally, as if nothing had happened.  A few days after the bombing, surveillance video of two suspects were publicized and identified the two Chechen brothers.  This led to more violence as the Tsarnaev brothers shot and killed an M.I.T. police officer and exchanged more fire with police ending with Tamerlan being killed and Dzhokhar captured.  In the end six people were killed and 280 wounded by the the muslim terrorists.

The younger terrorist has garnered some support for his boyish looks.  Rolling Stone Magazine even put him on their cover, giving the mass murderer a pseudo-celebrity status.  A following of young girls began a twitter campaign with hashtag #freejahar.  He appears to be banking on his youthful good looks and defense tactic of shifting all of the blame for the attacks onto his older brother.

Dzhokhar’s attorneys had attempted to persuade the court that Dzhokhar was under the influence of his domineering older brother who was the mastermind.  The jury wasn’t swayed and sentenced the younger killer to death last May.
